Therapy services such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech language pathology and respiratory therapy are routine service areas for most hospitals. Coding is generally through the chargemaster. Changes in this these areas are generally evolutionary as opposed to revolutionary. However, given the repetitive nature of these services along with sometimes prolonged care plans, proper coding and billing is extremely important. In some cases there is a need to use modifiers to properly provide additional information for proper claim adjudication.
